Skin
Problems during Pregnancy
Let us take
a look at some of the common skin problems during
pregnancy.
Melasma
Skin
problems are very common in pregnancy and of them melasma is the most
pesky one. This is a condition when you see appearance of dark patches on your
skin. Such conditions only increase your urge to use cosmetics and cover up those
flaws which may not be a good thing to do.
There are
pregnancy masks available to cover up those patches. However, you must consult
your doctor before using them. Those with darker skin are at greater risk of
developing such skin problems. Since there are not many therapies available as
cure, the best thing you can do is limit your exposure to the sun. Cosmetics
like hydroquinone contained in skin lightening products are said safe for
use.
A vitamin C product, azelaic too can be used to arrest
skin pigmentation. Soy based products can also be safely used in this case. But
to be on a safer side it is always good to consult a doctor
before using them.
Belly Itches
This is
another common problem in pregnancy that is caused by the hormonal surges. You
can first notice them in your belly button and they can thereafter spread over
your thighs and breasts. Even though this may sometime turn out to be
irritating, it generally disappears after delivery. For soothing effect you can
safely use the calamine lotion prescribed by your
doctor.
However, when you notice any types of skin
irritation, it is better to get in touch with your doctor. Any itchy
skin may also mean cholestasis, which is a condition related to
liver. This may increase chances of fatal disease or premature labour.
Since treating your skin problems shall be much easier
after birth of your child, it is better to let them be the way they are unless
and until you are genuinely bothered by them. Also, make sure to seek
permission of your doctor before trying anything new. Keeping in mind the
simple precautionary measures shall make things much easier for
you.
